Dean is a Colorado native and has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (1983) degree and a Master of Science in Taxation (1992) degree from Colorado State University.  He started his career with Arthur Andersen LLP’s tax department in 1983.  Dean left Arthur Andersen to become a founding partner of Dunn Henritze LLP (fka Dean Dunn & Assoc., LLC in 1997).  Dean’s professional and personal accomplishments include the following:

  • Has assisted clients in a variety of areas such as restructuring and transactional planning to reduce federal and multi-state tax liabilities, short-term and long-range investment planning and structured estate planning.
  • Designed and implemented an accounting system to track and allocate income to the owners of two $1 billion investment funds.
  • Advises clients on tax efficient acquisition and disposition of real estate including use of Section 1031 transactions, installment sales, taxable exchanges and the formation of carried interest and co-investment entities for the benefit of employees.
  • Has taught in Colorado State University Master’s Program since 1996.  Also has served as an instructor of numerous continuing education courses.
  • Member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants.
  • Chairman of the Board of Directors of Step 13, a nonprofit organization which provides drug and alcohol rehabilitation services to homeless men in Denver from 1995-2013.
  • Dean and his wife, Laura, have 2 children, Cami age 16 and Janey age 12.   They enjoy boating, waterskiing, snow skiing and spending time in the outdoors.
